Maseloff

Derek Maseloff is a conductor, horn player, organist, and composer. He is the Artistic Director and conductor of the Great Falls Philharmonic, Northern Virginia’s newest professional orchestra.

Since founding the Great Falls Philharmonic in 2023, Maseloff has led projects ranging from intimate chamber performances and family concerts to large-scale collaborations, including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Voce Chamber Singers. The orchestra has also presented new music, interactive programs for young audiences, and performances designed to bring professional orchestral music into unexpected and approachable settings.

Maseloff believes classical music is most powerful when it feels immediate, communal, and alive. His work emphasizes ambitious programming, opportunities for emerging professional artists, and performances that invite audiences to experience familiar repertoire in new ways. He serves as a conductor and band officer in the U.S. Army Band. He previously served as the first principal conductor of the Greenbelt Community Orchestra in Maryland.

Previously, Maseloff worked extensively in international arts management. He served as Director of Artistic Planning for the National Youth Orchestra of China, presenting concerts across three continents, including performances at the Berlin Konzerthaus and Carnegie Hall, and later as Festival Director of a young-artist program for singers and orchestral musicians in the Czech Republic.

Maseloff earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in China and Asia-Pacific Studies and a master’s degree in horn performance from the University of Maryland, where he studied with Gregory Miller and Phil Munds.
