Julia Clancy
Viola
Julia Clancy joined The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in 2024 after serving as Acting Section Violist of the San Diego Symphony. Previously, she performed with the Staatskapelle Berlin, Nashville Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, and Dallas Symphony.
An active international performer, Julia is a member of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra, touring globally under the direction of Daniel Barenboim. She held a two-year contract with the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, where she performed extensively in opera, ballet, symphonic, and chamber repertoire. Her recorded work includes albums with the Boulez Ensemble, Konzerthaus Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, and the Aldeburgh Ensemble.
As a soloist, Julia has appeared at venues including 92Y, The Greene Space, National Sawdust, and LACMA, as well as throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Spain. A winner of the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition, she performed as a soloist with the school’s orchestra. She has also served as principal violist with numerous distinguished ensembles, including the Britten-Pears Orchestra, Moritzburg Festival Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, CityMusic Cleveland, Sarasota Music Festival Orchestra, and Lorin Maazel’s Castleton Festival Orchestra.
Julia began her musical training at the Juilliard School Pre-College. She holds a degree in medical anthropology from Case Western Reserve University and a music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from Yale University, where she was a two-time recipient of the Georgina Lucy Grosvenor Memorial Prize.
