Joseph Hubbard | BASS
With stage engagements at Lyric Opera of Chicago, State Opera Bulgaria, Virginia Opera, The Second City, Aldeburgh Festival, and Aspen Music Festival, he has performed over 30 different operatic roles, ranging from early 17th century Monteverdi to new premieres.
As a concert soloist, he has been featured at Washington National Cathedral, Boston Symphony Hall, Virginia Symphony, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Catedral Basilica de Santiago de Compostela, Sankt Jacobs Kyrka Stockholm, Marsh Chapel Boston, American Bach Soloists & Academy, Bethlehem Bach, Ars Lyrica Houston, BWV: Cleveland’s Bach Choir, Duke University, Dartmouth College, University of Chicago, and Madison and Boston Early Music Festivals.
A lover of ensemble singing, particularly in small consorts, Joseph has sung with Artefact Ensemble, Ensemble Altera, Schola Antiqua of Chicago, Ampersand, Transept Consort, The Clarion Choir, Benedict XVI, Handel+Haydn Society, The Newberry Consort, and South Dakota Chorale, which earned multiple Grammy nominations during his decade-long tenure as Artistic Advisor.
Joseph holds degrees from Northwestern University (M.Mus) and the University of North Texas (B.Mus), as well as a postgraduate Certificate from the Opera Institute at Boston University. He has been a guest teacher at colleges and universities across the US, including as Artist in Residence at Baylor University, and is on the voice faculty at the University of Minnesota International Choral Academy. Based in Washington, DC, he serves as resident bass at Washington National Cathedral.
